The History, Status Quo and Development Trend of Pyropia Yezoensis Industry of China

Abstract: Pyropia yezoensis is an economically important seaweed. The present paper introduced the status quo of pyropia yezoensis industry, reviewed its historical background and the important effect of science and technology on the industry development. The authors believe that the industry is facing the following problems:the environment, labour force and product price problem, etc. The authors propose several strategies to deal with these problems. These strategies include establishment of novel cultivation method which adapt to the global warming, breeding new cultivars with stress resistance and stable yield, improvement of the conchocelis cultivation facilities, development of high efficient, environment friendly automatic cultivation equipments and providing customized products etc.
