7 The Farmer and the Goats
One stormy winter night,a farmer noted that another farmer'sgoats were on his land.He was quite excite.“If these new goats stay here, I could sell them in the spring, ” he thought.
The farmer made sure that the new goats were comfortable. He let them stay in the warm barn and gave them large piles of hay to eat.
Meanwhile,he showed no concern for his old goats. He left them out in the bitter wind and gave them almost no food. They were cold and hungry all night long.
The next morning, the storm was over and the sun was shining. When the farmer opened the barn doors, the goats rushed out as quickly as they could. “How can you leave?” shouted the farmer angrily.“I was so generous to all of you!”
“Yes,”said one of the goats, but you ignored your own goats on a stormy night. We fear that one day, you would be careless with us, too.”
The farmer learned that you shouldn't forget about old friends when you are trying to make new ones.
