14 The Goose and the Golden Eggs
Once there was a very poor man. He was often hungry and his clothes were full of holes. He was very sad.
Then one day, he found a lovely goose in the forest and took it home. The next morning, the poor man discovered a small golden egg under the goose. His face lit up with joy.
“This is amazing! ”he shouted. He took the egg to the market and sold it. Then he used the money to buy food and clothes.
“Life is getting better, ” he said happily.
The goose changed the man's life. It laid a golden egg every morning. The man had no worries now,but he became greedy.
“This goose must be bursting with golden eggs!” he thought. “I hate getting them so slowly.”
Hoping to get rich faster, he killed the goose and cut it open with a knife. However, there was nothing special inside.
The man felt very stupid. “I could have been rich, ” he cried, “but I was greedy, and now I have nothing.”
