17 The Donkey and the Dog

One day, a farmer went to see the animals in his stable. Hisfavorite donkey was there with other animals. The farmer often rode the donkey.

Because this was the farmer's favorite, the servants always fed him well and took care of him.

The farmer brought his dog with him that day. The dog was fat and clean. It danced and jumped happily and licked the farmer's hand.

The farmer took out some special food and gave it to the dog. When he sat to talk to his servants, the dog jumped onto his lap, and there it sat gladly while the farmer scratched its ears.

The donkey saw the farmer give the dog some special food. He saw the farmer scratch its ears.

The farmer never treated the donkey so well.

The donkey broke loose and began dancing around the stable.He wanted to dance like the dog. He wanted to make the farmer like him, too.

But the farmer laughed and laughed until his stomach hurt. Then the donkey walked up to the farmer and tried to climb onto the farmer's lap, like the dog.
