2.Part 3
例如 “Describe a foreign country/place where you would like to work for a short period of time.”。
I will be in a foreign country! I will have new experiences, seeing new things, meeting new people, learning more about the world and enjoy the opportunity to make new friends after settling down in the new environment.I can travel more. Living in a distant foreign country opens up a whole new world of inexpensive travel opportunities. My home is now in Japan, which means there are numerous nearby nations that are an inexpensive, short plane trip away. It is easy and cheap to go to Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, China, etc. And if I plan my trips right, I can stop over in different countries during a connecting flight. Working on the other side of the world is a great way to get more stamps in my passport.
Living in a foreign country opens me up to an entirely novel way of living. All those old customs and habits we have in our home countries are pretty much confined to our native place of birth. The rest of the world doesn't necessarily live the way my society does. It is not better or worse, and it is just different. New countries help me question my assumptions of what life is about and ultimately makes me a better person.I could escape the old baggage. We all get into self-defeating routines that can rob us of our dreams and passions. We are afraid to try new things because we might fail and we all need to maintain a certain status among our peer groups. For better or worse, being abroad allows me to jump out of my comfort zone and do things I might not have considered.
I could get out of my system. There is an incredible amount of peer and societal pressure to keep purchasing material possessions such as bigger houses, newer cars and more things just because that is what everyone else is doing. As an outsider in a foreign country, I can keep such consumerism at a safe distance. It is cool and normal to not have anything when I'm temporarily experiencing a foreign culture.
Question 1: What kinds of jobs do young people not want to do in your country?
Answer 1: Well, I think those jobs that require people to do exactly what they are told to and have no room for innovation at all are the kind that young people dislike most. For example, workers in factories usually do repetitive tasks day in and day out. Those tasks are so boring that many young people would be reluctant to take them up.
Question 2: Who is best at advising young people about choosing a job: teachers or parents?
Answer 2: I believe teachers are more persuasive, because they are professionals in guiding students. I mean, they have acquired skills to communicate with students and are more experienced in dealing with young people. Also, these days many teachers receive trainings on giving advice on choosing careers. These teachers are probably better informed about the job market and thus are able to give constructive advice. That way, students would feel that their teachers are the reliable source of career advice.
Question 3: Is money always the most important thing when choosing a job?
Answer 3: Definitely not. There are many more important factors, such as working environment and the opportunity of getting trained. Many people regard on-the-job training as the most attractive perks when choosing a job. Therefore, although salary is one of the major aspects for job seekers to consider, it is not true that everyone weighs financial incentives most.
Question 4: Do you agree that many people nowadays are under pressure to work longer hours and take less holiday?
Answer 4: Yes, I agree with that. This is because nowadays the society is becoming more competitive than before. Everybody wants to stand out and gain more attention from their bosses and get promotion. As a consequence, employees who want to be more successful have no choice but work extra hours. Some of them even need to work up late until midnight. These people certainly will have less leisure time.
Question 5: What is the impact on society of people having a poor work-life balance?
Answer 5: There are many negative effects of working too much and resting too little. For one thing, sitting in front of a computer for a long time harms people's health. Their eyesight will be poor and they will probably suffer from back pain. For another, lacking proper rest is likely to cause anxiety. When people are too busy with work and don't have a minute for themselves, they will feel stressed out.
Question 6: Could you recommend some effective strategies for governments and employers to ensure people have a good work-life balance?
Answer 6: I think it will be an effective solution if the government is able to institute rules to ban working extra hours. Those employers who demand their employees to stay in office after work to complete extra tasks should be punished. The punishment can be a formally written warning or a fine. As for the companies, they can encourage employees to reduce working hours by working more efficiently.
