Section 5　Basic Types of Occurrence of Warm Disease

According to the clinical symptoms of occurrence of warm diseases, the medical specialists of warm disease divided the occurrence of warm diseases into two basic types as follows.

1.Newly Affected Warm Disease

It refers to a category of warm diseases caused by exogenous invasion of a current warm pathogen in the present season, and is marked with an exterior syndrome or Wei phase syndrome at the beginning of the disease, then progressively deeper invasion in the body, and relatively mild symptoms in a shorter course of disease.

Wind-warm and autumn-dryness are two representatives of newly-affected warm disease,however, although summer-warm is newly caused by a current summer-heat pathogen in summer season, it is special one because there is an intense interior heat syndrome without an obvious exterior syndrome at the beginning of this disease.

2.Latent Pathogen Warm Disease

It is chiefly characterized by an serious interior heat syndrome but without exterior syndrome in the early stage of a warm disease, and it is thus infers that the disease is not caused by exogenous invasion of a warm pathogen, and may be caused by a latent pathogen in the interior body, namely, warm-heat pathogen, which results from Yin-essence deficiency and then a conversion from an exogenous pathogen invaded in the last season. So Neijing says: “ A person invaded by cold in winter may suffer from a warm disease next winter” and “ A person can store essence in winter, and doesn’t suffer from a warm disease next spring”. Its typical example is spring-warm disease.

By distinguishing between the two basic types of occurrence of warm diseases, we can judge the depth of morbid location, severity of disease and tendency of development, and thus determine the corresponding therapeutic principles and formulas.
