2.2 Terms for Cold-Rolled Wide Steel Strip Mill

2.2.1 Conventional Tandem Cold Rolling Process

A single-coil continuous cold rolling process in which each coil is treated by uncoiling,low-speed strip threading,tandem rolling,low-speed tailing-out,and coiling.

2.2.2 Full Continuous Tandem Cold Rolling Process

A cold rolled steel strip production process in which the steel strip is treated by endless continuous rolling by means of welding machine and looper.

2.2.3 Continuous Pickling and Tandem Cold Rolling Process

A cold rolled steel strip production process in which the steel strip is treated by continuous pickling and rolling through continuous pickling procedure and continuous rolling procedure that are combined by means of a looper in a combined unit.

2.2.4 Push-pull Pickling Line(PPL)

A shallow tank pickling line without welding machine and high capacity looper,which produces single-coil steel strip intermittently through procedures including uncoiling,pickling,rinsing,drying,trimming,tempering,oiling,and coiling,etc.

2.2.5 Continuous Pickling Line(CPL)

A pickling line that produces a steel strip continuously through procedures including uncoiling,welding,mechanical scale breaking,pickling,rinsing,drying,trimming,tempering,oiling,coiling,and coil separation,etc.

2.2.6 Cold Reversing Rolling Mill(CRM)

A rolling mill that is designed to roll a steel strip to and fro,so as to obtain a finished product in required thickness finally.

2.2.7 Continuous Hot Dip Galvanizing Line(CGL)

A production line in which the surface of a steel strip prepared from a hot-rolled and pickled coil or cold rolled coil is continuously hot-dip galvanized with zinc(or zinc alloy)through procedures including uncoiling,welding,degreasing,annealing,hot dip plating,cooling,finishing,straightening,chemical treatment,oiling,coiling,and coil separation,etc.

2.2.8 Electrolytic Galvanizing Line(EGL)

A production line in which the surface of a steel strip prepared from an annealed coil is continuously electro-galvanized through procedures including uncoiling,welding,(straightening),degreasing,pickling,electroplating,chemical treatment,oiling,coiling,and coil separation,etc.

2.2.9 Electrolytic Tinning Line(ETL)

A production line in which the surface of a steel strip prepared from a flattened and annealed coil is continuously tin electroplated through procedures including uncoiling,welding,(straightening),degreasing,pickling,electroplating,soft melting treatment,chemical treatment,oiling,coiling/coil separation,etc.

2.2.10 Color Coating Line(CCL)

A continuous production line in which the surface of a steel strip prepared from an annealed and level coil/plated coil/cold rolled rigid coil is coated with organic color paint or plastic film through procedures including uncoiling,seaming(or welding),degreasing,coating,baking,inspection,(film coating),(waxing),(printing),(embossing),coil separation,and coiling,etc.It is also referred to as a paint baking line.

2.2.11 Automatic Flatness Control(AFC)

A technique for controlling the flatness of a steel strip automatically by roll bending,roll shifting,roll tilting,and step cooling with emulsion in the cold rolled steel strip rolling process.

2.2.12 Bell Annealing Furnace(BAF)

An annealing furnace in which vertically overlaid coils are treated by recrystallization annealing in a bell charged with a shielding gas.A bell-type furnace that employs pure hydrogen as the shielding gas isreferred to as a full hydrogen bell annealing furnace.

2.2.13 Continuous Annealing Line(CAL)

A produce line in which a cold rolled coil is treated by continuous annealing in shielding gas atmosphere through procedures including uncoiling,welding,degreasing,annealing,tempering,(straightening),trimming,checking,and coiling,etc.

2.2.14 Tempering Mill

A mill that treats an annealed coil through procedures including uncoiling,tempering,(cutting),(oiling),and coiling,etc.

2.2.15 Electrolytic Clean Line(ECL)

A production line in which the surface of a steel strip prepared from a cold rolled coil is deoiled through procedures including uncoiling,welding,chemical degreasing,electrolytic degreasing,rinsing,and coiling,etc.

2.2.16 Electrical Steel

A magnetically soft alloy,mainly used to produce cores for transformers and electric motors and other magnetic conducting elements/components in the electrical industry.

2.2.17 Cold Rolled Electrical Steel Strip

An electrical steel strip produced from a hot-rolled electrical steel strip coil through procedures including pickling,cold rolling,annealing,and finishing,etc.A cold rolled electrical steel strip is a magnetically soft alloy strip in which silicon is the principal alloying element,and is also referred to as a cold rolled silicon steel strip.

Cold rolled electrical steel strips can be categorized into oriented electrical steel strips and nonoriented electrical steel strips,according to the direction of easy magnetization of the crystal grains.

2.2.18 Normalizing Process for Electrical Steel

A process in which the raw material(hot-rolled steel strip)for high magnetic induction oriented electrical steel or high-grade and high magnetic induction non-oriented electrical steel is normalized(annealed)before pickling.Usually,the normalizing treatment is made together with shot blasting and pickling in the same production line.

2.2.19 Low Temperature Rolling Process for Electrical Steel Strip

A process in which the steel strip is pre-heated before rolling and then rolled under high pressure at temperature lower than a specific value for producing high magnetic induction oriented electrical steel products.

2.2.20 Edge Drop Control(EDC)

An automatic control technique for reducing the edge reduction(edge collapse)of a steel strip by decreasing the diameter of mill rolls and utilizing cone-shaped rolls,bending rolls,and shifting rolls,etc.This technique is mainly used for rolling electrical steel.

2.2.21 Continuous Decarbonizing & Annealing and Special MgO Coating Line.

A production line in which an oriented electrical coil is treated through procedures including uncoiling,welding,degreasing,decarburizing and annealing,MgO insulation coating,and coiling,etc.

2.2.22 Continuous Annealing Line(CAL)

A production line in which an electrical coil is treated by continuous annealing through procedures including uncoiling,welding,degreasing,annealing,cooling,insulation coating,and coiling,etc.This production line can be used for intermediate annealing(without a coating procedure)of non-oriented electrical steel strip,annealing of finished product,and intermediate annealing(without a coating procedure)of oriented electrical steel strip.

2.2.23 Rotary Furnace(ROF)

An annealing furnace with a rotary annular furnace bottom,which is used for secondary recrystallization annealing of oriented electrical coil,and is a coil-based continuously high-temperature annealing furnace.

2.2.24 Continuous Insulation Coating Thermal Tempering Line(CTL)

A continuous production line for carrying out uncoiling,spot welding,light pickling,drying,insulation coating,heat agglomeration,hot straightening,tempering,and annealing treatment for oriented electrical coil.

2.2.25 Hot Strip Annealing and Pickling Line(HAPL)

A production line for carrying out continuous annealing and pickling treatment for hot-rolled stainless steel strip.

2.2.26 Cold Strip Annealing and Pickling Line(CAPL)

A production line for carrying out continuous annealing and pickling treatment for cold rolled stainless steel strip.

2.2.27 Bright Annealing Line(BAL)

A production line for bright annealing treatment of cold rolled stainless steel strip in shielding gas to maintain surface brightness of the steel strip.

2.2.28 Coil Grinding and Polishing Line(CGL)

A production line for coarse grinding the surface flaws of hot-rolled stainless steel strip and cold rolled stainless steel strip and fine grinding the surface of finished steel strip.

2.2.29 Lead Strip

A steel strip is welded to the main body of a stainless steel strip at the head end and tail end respectively;such a steel strip is referred to as a lead strip.

2.2.30 Rolling Annealing Pickling Line(RAPS)

A continuous production line that combines rolling,annealing,pickling,and tempering procedures.It is also referred to as a fully continuous stainless steel strip production line.
