4.8 Plant Layout

4.8.1 The plan layout of the medium slab rolling plant shall follow the following principles:

1 The plan layout shall be adaptive to the characteristics of production,i.e.,diverse product varieties and specifications,small production lot,multiple routes of finishing process,and to-and-fro and cross operations,etc.

2 The processing equipment shall be configured reasonably,in compact layout,with smooth and short flow lines;the intermediate depots shall be arranged reasonably.

3 The plan layout shall be adaptive to the application of leading techniques and processes,such as continuous casting hot-charging,control rolling,and accelerated control cooling,etc.

4 Developing conditions shall be reserved for expanding the product varieties and exploring the potential of the rolling mills in the future.

4.8.2 The raw material bay should be adjacent to the slab run out bay of the continuous casting shop.The span of the raw material bay should not be shorter than 30m.The retention period in the raw material storage bay should not exceed 7 days.

4.8.3 The areas of the intermediate depots shall be determined in the layout plan of the medium slab rolling plant according to the requirements of offline stock-piling and offline slow cooling of the steel plates.

4.8.4 The span of the main rolling bay shall be determined according to the requirements for equipment layout in the rolling mill train,equipment maintenance,lifting of rolls,passages,and operation safety,etc.The span of the main rolling bay shall not be shorter than 30m for 3,500mm rolling mills and shall not be shorter than 33m for larger rolling mills.

4.8.5 The shearing line should be arranged in parallel to the main rolling line,or arranged in a fold-back layout if the floor length is limited as indicated on the general plan.The span of the cooling bed bay and the span of the shearing bay shall be selected according to the equipment configuration of the cooling bed and shearing line.The shearing wastes from rolling mills with 100×104 t/a or higher annual yield should be directly conveyed on a conveyer to a place outside of the main building and then collected.

4.8.6 For a rolling plant that mainly employs railway transportation,the finished product bay should be arranged in parallel to the main rolling bay;for a rolling plant that mainly employs motor transportation,the finished product bay should be in a vertical layout.The span of the finished product bay should not be shorter than 30m.The retention period in the finished product storage bay should not be longer than 7 days.If the conditions permit,a separate medium slab processing and delivery center can be arranged.

4.8.7 The roll shop shall be adjacent to the rolling mill area,and should be arranged at the rolling mill operation side of the main rolling bay.The main electrical room shall be arranged at a position where the power input is convenient at the rolling mill driving side of the main rolling bay.
