［趣释］【物事喻指】按照英国律师界的习俗，凡是大学学法律的学生，每学期（term）必须在伦敦（London）法律协会参加若干次聚餐，结识法律界的名流。这样，毕业以后，才有可能当律师（the bar）。后来，“吃自己的大餐”（to eat one's dinner）被用来喻指学习法律、准备当师律。英国作家约翰·高尔斯华绥（John Galsworthy）在他的小说《骑虎》（In Chancery）中就引用这个典故。
